Complementing Cancer Treatment with Osteopathy

A doctor of osteopathy can be a great addition to a medical team for someone with any type of cancer. An osteopathic physician is a trained and licensed medical caregiver who can diagnose and treat patients, but who works under a different philosophy of medicine from that of an MD. Osteopaths are more focused on prevention, treating the whole person, and physical manipulation of the musculoskeletal system.

No osteopathic practitioner will claim that musculoskeletal manipulation can cure cancer or replace traditional treatments like chemotherapy or surgery. However, these doctors can provide complementary care for people with cancer. They can work within the medical team treating these patients to help relieve symptoms and to reduce or relieve the side effects of treatment.

Below is a testimonial by a mesothelioma cancer patient who requested we share how Osteopathy substantially reduced or relieved the side effects of his cancer treatment.

“I was recently diagnosed with mesothelioma, which is a cancer caused by exposure to asbestos. The amount of care and treatment required to fight this type of cancer can take a heavy toll on the body and mind, resulting in various pains and discomforts. The practice known as Osteopathy has been designed around relieving patients of these discomforts through the manipulation of the musculoskeletal system. Osteopathy is a complementary treatment and is not meant to directly cure the cancer, but to help assist the body into an improved state of well being so that it can better combat the cancer itself.

I couldn’t help but notice makes mention of similar alternative practices and medicines and I hope to be able to share this information more publicly so that others may learn of its benefits. Perhaps you would be interested in posting a link to this article – on your website or do a small write-up letting your visitors know about the benefits of osteopathy for cancer patients.”

Dr. Swan and Dr. Stanley have both been treating patients with cancer for years and have found it improves quality of life and supports return to health. After all Sharon shares, “healing emerges from within the patient given the appropriate support.”  We can provide important care and treatment that medical doctors cannot.
