Keith C. Swan, D.O.

1948 – 2022

Dr. Swan was raised in a military family and traveled throughout the world including going to school in Thailand, Lebanon, Germany, and then completed his Bachelors in Primatology at Ohio State University in 1974. Dr. Swan graduated from A.T. Still University, Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1981 after an additional three years fellowship in Osteopathic Principles and Practice. He completed a general internship at Doctors Hospital in Columbus, Ohio and then three years of Obstetrics and Gynecological residency at Southeastern Medical Center in North Miami Beach and at Philadelphia Osteopathic Hospital.

Dr. Swan was involved in teaching Osteopathy throughout the country, to medical students, residents and other physicians since 1978. He lectured with the Sutherland Cranial Teaching Foundation and with the  Cranial Academy for many years. He was a part of developing the Percussion course with Dr. Robert Fulford, D.O.. He studied Biodynamics and was a good friend and colleague of James Jealous, D.O. 

Dr. Swan also completed the three year physicians course of Medical Acupuncture at UCLA and additionally trained in the Balance Method with Richard Te Fu Tan D.O.M. He often used Traditional Osteopathy with Balance Method acupuncture, as he found it very synergistic with patients, and allowed resolution of complex cases. 

Dr. Swan traveled throughout the world, exploring many cultures, good food, music, and even crossed the Sahara on camelback. He was in the rock band Blue Cheer in Haight-Ashbury, San Francisco in 1967, the Summer of Love. He played flamingo guitar, electric bass and saxophone. He was a true audiophile!  Dr. Swan loved historic artifacts, reading, learning, and American football, especially Ohio State.  He rode his motorcycle across the country to his varied medical school rotations, and even spent a night sleeping out in South Dakota, surrounded by a herd of wild buffalo. Dr. Swan had three beautiful children, and spent over twenty five wonderful years with his work and life partner Sharon Ann Stanley, D.O.. Dr Swan’s presence is felt here at Bellingham Osteopathic Center, and his memory continues to inspire us all.
